BROTHER get your arse in here

[Elrond isn't really paying attention to Maglor. Instead, every sense is straining for Elros. He's not jealous that he got to go hunting with Maedhros - okay, well, maybe a little, but they promised that he could go next time - more that Maedhros got to steal so much of his brother's time and attention. He might be sulking a tiny bit.

That doesn't stop him from sitting bolt up right as he senses his brother's presence, long before they're within sight or hearing distance. He keeps himself from rushing to the door, instead finally focusing on Maglor. Look at how much fun they're having, Elros. Look at what you missed out on. Now Maglor is the sole keeper of his attention and not you! Elrond doesn't even look over when the door finally opens, though that takes more than a little will power.

[It was fun, but it would have been a lot more fun if Elrond had been with them. Too bad that their not!parents had said no to that (the reasoning was really dumb, they could be just as quiet when they were together as they could be when alone!), and even worse that they had promised to instead let only Elrond go the next time.

But going at all is better than not going, and Elros is grinning broadly as he rushes down the corridor towards where he assumes Maglor and Elrond to be and throws open the door.]
We got a deer!

[Well, Maedhros did, but. Details.]

When Maglor tries to leave his bedroom that day, there will be an endless sea of half-filled cups and pots and bowls and whatever else might be able to hold water covering the floor, and endless sea of them. It's not really hard to figure out who did that, especially not when there are two heads poking out from behind a corner, waiting for the occupant of the room to come out.

They'll pull out of sight the moment that Maglor notices them.

LOL that whole webpage is a thing of beauty, really

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-22 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Maglor opens his door and steps out only to stumble with a yelp as he knocks over several of the nearest bowls. He only has to blink down in surprise at the sea of water filled containers to understand what has happened.

"Elros! Elrond!" He looks up the corridor to see if he can spot them. Surely they will not be far (inwardly, he boggles at the sheer extent of the prank. He didn't know they had this many containers. ... Is that. Maedhros' favourite wine set? Wasn't that locked away?)

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-22 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
There might be stifled giggling behind the corner, but nobody shows themselves.

And did you really think that keen childrens' eyes could not find the keys to anything necessary for such important missions as this?
bythewaves: (will you look back)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-22 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He sighs, and calls down the corridor.

"While I am impressed by your ingenuity, I will also advise any conspirators that they will be cleaning this up and explaining to cook why we have no soup for dinner tonight!"

Eyeing the mess on the floor he bends to carefully begin clearing a path. This.... is going to take a while.

"They will also have to explain to Maedhros why his favourite wine glasses are not in his cabinet... if he has not already found out."

Sure enough, this is followed by a yell from another part of the castle.

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-22 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a giggle and and a pattering of small feet as they're running away before Maglor can get to them, and then ...Oops.

They might not have factored in Maedhros. Which was kind of short-sighted, in retrospect, but they were only to pull a prank on Maglor! That they involved the glasses was only due to there being a lot of them, really...

For most of the day, it will be impossible to find them, though neither has actually left the castle (there is a line here, a line beyond which the ease of a family, knowing that consequences of what they do will be delivered in a parental manner, ceases, and they won't cross that line) - they just know it very well by now, and there are spaces that a child will find much more easily than an adult. But in the end, they get hungry, and so Elros sneaks over to the kitchen to find something to eat for them.

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-22 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It had taken a long time to clear the corridor, even with an irate Maedhros helping from the other end. Long enough, Maglor knows, for wily young peredhil to hide themselves thoroughly. He makes a token search, as much to placate Maedhros as anything, but knows full well he will not find them. No, he knows better than to seek them.

Instead, he has been waiting.

The kitchen is fairly peaceful at this time of day - they maintain only a small staff here, since there are not many of them, and indeed, Maglor will often do the cooking himself. Still, it is easy to tell the castle once housed a great force, with a large imposing kitchen... with lots of dark corners.

Maglor will wait until Elros is sure he is safe before clearing his throat.

"Ahem."

Elros drops the loaf of bread that he had just picked up when he whirls around, ducking his head automatically. There is a faint relief when he sees Maglor, because even when the shorter of the two sons of Fëanor is being scary (and he can definitely be) Elros still feels safer with him, just because their connection is stronger. And even while right now he doesn't think that there is an issue of safety here, only one of having gotten themselves into more trouble than they thought they would, it is still better for Maglor to have found him.

He doesn't say a word though, only stands there. Not like there is a good place to run now, and it will probably make the older elf even more angry.

"Maedhros has gone out hunting." Maglor says first as he steps further into the kitchen, in an entirely neutral tone of voice. "He was... most displeased that his personal belongings had been raided." He notes with pleasure how Elros lifts his head to watch him and stands his ground rather than run. Good/.

"It took us near two hours to clear the corridor, and so I dismissed Cook and the others who helped us early." Thus explaining the quiet of the castle. "They had worked very hard to help us, after all. As a result, there is no supper tonight, as you can see."
half_human: (is it so?)

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-22 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They had wondered why it had gotten so quiet so early. But on the other hand if Maedhros is gone... it means that he will be angry at them later, but at least he will have had some time so it won't be as fresh anymore, and he'll have dones something that he likes in between so that will be good?

"He has a lot of glasses. We didn't think ..." he searches for the right words for a moment. "they are glasses, and we needed more of them." They really didn't think much, he has to admit that. That they were locked up - well, adults lock up all kinds of things.

"Mm. Cook was also displeased to find her favourite pot used in such a manner. You and Elrond will write them all apology letters tonight." He looks at Elros sternly for a moment longer then smiles. "And now you will remember to think carefully who you steal from in order to play your pranks, hm?"

He had discovered early on just how vast the library of the castle was, and that, after a time, he was permitted to read to this heart's content. Usually Elrond didn't let himself get lost among the shelves, let alone Elros letting such a thing happen, but sometimes he found something especially interesting.

And time passed. Maglor seemed to like his interest turned away from pranks - not that it didn't entirely save them of course.

But Elrond had indeed gotten himself lost among the scrolls and books tucked away, small body bent over on the floor in a corner of of one the rooms, hair tucked behind an ear.

[The silence is not broken by Elros's approach - he's trying to be as quiet as possible and they've both gotten rather good at it by now - but the hands that suddenly cover the studious twin's eyes still are definitely distracting. And also an obstacle with continuing to read.

Elros has probably not come unannounced anyway, even if he was quiet - he's bringing in a scent of grass and leaves and earth into the room that carries stone and paper among it's scents.]

He relaxes a bit further at that, signaled by a pout slipping into his expression. Writing letters. Not that he generally disapproves but the way Maglor says it it sounds really tedious...

"But we needed as much as we could, and nothing got damaged. We were really careful with everything and put only things in front of your door that were really sturdy!" It's not like it was a prank pulled off carelessly or without thought put into it!

[Elrond is distracted enough that the usual brush of his twin's presence didn't alert him until those hands cover his eyes. Even the smells hadn't alerted him, judging by that jerk and slight flail before Elrond laughs and turns to launch himself at his brother, book forgotten for the moment.]
bythewaves: (will you look back)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-27 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh it will be tedious alright - it isn't a punishment if there is not some element of drudgery, and writing letters to all the staff who helped clean, plus Maedhros will certainly be that.

"Even so - Maedhros keeps those cupboards locked for a reason, Elros. I am sure once he calms down he will appreciate the care you took, but next time, perhaps leave locked cupboards locked, hm?" Because he is sure there will be a next time. This is Elros and Elrond after all.

"Now. I believe you are both hungry hm? Call your brother, and tonight you will help me with dinner."
half_human: (sunshine)

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-27 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Elros had seen this coming but still goes down when Elrond launches himself at him, in a tangle of limbs and laughter and a grin as wide as his head.

After all getting his brother away from the books and into some other activities was what he came here for.]

You should come out, the weather is great and they said that we're allowed to go as far out as the spring today without anyone having to come with us! [The temperature's still a bit on the cool side, but it's warm enough to at least take a dip in the water and that's just no fun alone.]
half_human: (look)

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-27 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like he wants to say something at Maglor's words regarding locked cupboards, and at the same time not say them... but then there is talk of dinner and Elros perceives that as the stern talk being on hold for now and nods, his features slowly turning into a small smile.

Cooking with Maglor is fun. And they're getting dinner. He storms off to get Elros, but not before giving Maglor a quick hug (still somewhat tentative, the motion slower than if he would hug his brother, a lingering need to clarify that the touch will be friendly before establishing it). But then he is gone, quick, eager feet that can be heard to be running down the corridor for a few moments before the sound ceases as Elros concentrates on moving silently, not wanting to make it known to the adult into what direction he is headed to get to the place where Elrond is still hiding. They need to keep their secret hide-outs secret, after all.]
bythewaves: (childhood peace)

suddenly I need an icon of him from that pic where they are cooking

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-27 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
The hug gets a startled blink, and a warm arm in return. Maglor is still surprised by the way the twins are slowly warming up to him, and in some tiny way it mends some of the cracks in his heart (It is wrong, he knows, to love them - he is their captor, the reason they have no other. What right has he to claim their love? But he cannot help loving them, either)

When the boys come back, the fire is lit and Maglor has braided his hair back and tied on an apron.

"So, there you are rapscallions. First priority in here as you know is cleanliness! Hands?"
half_human: (is it so?)

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-27 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Eh.

Cleanliness.

The boys give each other a look and then run off to wash their hands. When they return, two sets of cleanelfling hands will be held up for inspection. "What are we making?"
bythewaves: (alone)

... I went and looked this up I hope you're happy =p

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-27 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
He inspects hands with all the gravitas of a captain in front of his troops and nods approvingly.

"Well, since it grows late and I think none of us feels like much washing tonight, I think we will keep it simple. There are still some of the greens left that you boys helped to gather the other day, so we will have sorel and chickpea and dandelion salad. Elros, do you remember where Cook stores the apple cider and honey? We will use it for a dressing. There are still some old apples left I think, that we can use for a pie - Elrond, can you pop down to the cellar and see? And in the meantime I will cut us some cold ham and set the kettle a-brewing. Some spiced mead tonight, I think, while the evenings are still chill.
half_human: (look)

=D always

[personal profile] half_human 2014-05-27 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Both boys give some kind of acknowledgement of the order, even though just barely, before running off to get the things. Unsurprisingly, Elros is back with the apple cider and honey much earlier than his brother.

He places them on a nearby table. "So we're having pie for dinner and you and Maedhros'll eat salad, right?" He's positive that that is not the plan, but you can try?
bythewaves: (look up)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-05-27 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Maglor snorts in amusement from where he stands over the kettle, carefully measuring herbs into the mead.

"You will have to be more clever than that Elros, if you wish to escape your main meal."

He nods over to the table. "Since you are first, can you wash the greens for me, and then if Elrond is not back yet you may start to roll the pastry."
