[meme] The everyone survived AU

Due to recent events in the movie world, it seemed like we needed one of these again...

THE ARDA AU MEME

{source}

All the AUs! With classics as the obligatory and all important

> EVERYONE LIVED AU. Maybe you're at Thorin's festive coronation or a drinking game between Boromir and Haldir after the end of the War, or Fëanor and Thingol finally talk to each other. Maybe Belladonna comes with her son on adventures, or Maedhros spends some very awkward hours at Elrond's wedding. U know the drill.
> but let's not forget the staple COFFEESHOP AU either
> or the no less important WHAT IF AU: What if the Silmarils were glowing bunnies? What if Bard hadn't managed to take down Smaug? What if Maeglin had not betrayed Gondolin, what if Galadriel had accepted the One Ring? What if Sam had a giant afro?
> and really any other AUs that you can think of.

As a note, since not everyone has seen BOFA yet and some people care about not being spoiled, please make a note in your top level comment/the subject line of a comment if you might bring up spoilers in threads or don't want to be spoiled, something like "bofa spoilers yes" or "bofa spoilers no".

[Under normal circumstances, this kind of thing would be completely unheard of. The slow ritual of braiding is reserved for between the closest of family — spouses, parents and their children — and certainly not for members of different races. And yet here Tauriel is, with a comb in one hand and Kíli's beads in the other, waiting for him to settle down and cease his squirming so she can set to braiding that thick dark hair of his. She doesn't know the proper dwarven patterns, naturally, and she's sure adding the heavy silver clasps and beads to the traditional elven braids is something of a sacrilege, but right now she doesn't care. She has been banished from her kingdom, its traditions are no longer paramount to her.

She hums a little under her breath as she gets started, smoothing the comb through Kíli's tangles and gently separating it into the sections she'll need.]

[Unlike the brave and hapless few ever to venture to tame Kíli's hair thus far, Tauriel doesn't have to wait terribly long before she has the young dwarf seated and perfectly still, no hint of squirming to be seen once he has his back to her and his breath held at least for the beginning tugs of the comb. His first braids worn were woven by Fíli's hand on the day of Thorin's coronation, and the weight of new beads pulling on the strands sectioned off took some getting used to. He and his brother had sat together comfortably, taking turns until they were both presentable -- Fíli's exact words were or as close to it as we'll ever get you -- and finery or no, shoves had escalated to wrestling across the floor as though they were back in the woods around Ered Luin.

This is different, quieter despite the rapid rhythm of Kíli's pulse. This, Kíli quickly loses himself in as Tauriel's fingers ease out snarls, eyes drifting shut. Each light touch sends little shivers dancing their way along his skin from scalp to neck and down his spine. His every nerve seems set alight.

When Tauriel speaks, Kíli blinks his eyes open slowly and with some effort, bemusement in the slightly dazed look he gives her over his shoulder, then something nearing distress. She isn't stopping, is she?]

What? Are we done?

[His hand flies to the side of his head.]

[Tauriel had a family once, she's sure of it, but she does not remember them. She was orphaned as a little girl, and brought in to live in the court of her king as a ward of the crown. In that, she knows she was very lucky. However, it means she never had the chance to sit where Kíli is now, letting someone she loved fix her hair for her until she looked presentable. One of Thranduil's servants, a handmaiden to the late queen, had sat her down one day and taught her the braids she was supposed to know. She's enjoying the chance to do this for Kíli now, even though she knows she will have to learn all new patterns soon.

Laughing, she bats his hand away, then leans in to kiss his cheek.]

I haven't even started yet. Cease your fretting.
