[meme] The everyone survived AU

Due to recent events in the movie world, it seemed like we needed one of these again...

THE ARDA AU MEME

{source}

All the AUs! With classics as the obligatory and all important

> EVERYONE LIVED AU. Maybe you're at Thorin's festive coronation or a drinking game between Boromir and Haldir after the end of the War, or Fëanor and Thingol finally talk to each other. Maybe Belladonna comes with her son on adventures, or Maedhros spends some very awkward hours at Elrond's wedding. U know the drill.
> but let's not forget the staple COFFEESHOP AU either
> or the no less important WHAT IF AU: What if the Silmarils were glowing bunnies? What if Bard hadn't managed to take down Smaug? What if Maeglin had not betrayed Gondolin, what if Galadriel had accepted the One Ring? What if Sam had a giant afro?
> and really any other AUs that you can think of.

As a note, since not everyone has seen BOFA yet and some people care about not being spoiled, please make a note in your top level comment/the subject line of a comment if you might bring up spoilers in threads or don't want to be spoiled, something like "bofa spoilers yes" or "bofa spoilers no".

[Is it time travel? Some kind of evil dragon-spelled jewel bringing in the reincarnated version of whoever touches it? Whatever the reason, the current, very much alive (or, you know, after only a few months since the battle, this is still under debate, but at least his rather extensive injuries are mostly healed by now) King Under the Mountain is standing there in front of his throne... staring in the face of--]

-- What devilry is this? [Yes, clearly he has no idea what is happening.]

[Nor has the guy who looks almost exactly like him, safe for the modern clothes and smartphone in his hand.]

Who are you?

[What is happening now? Is this another numbered who can shapeshift, is this some scheme of the mafia or Thunder Corp, or... something else entirely? And why is it in his mountain? ....And are there more of it? He needs to check on the others, soon.]

[The clothes and the strange box made of something like metal in the other's hand certainly give Thorin pause, but at the question, he draws himself up, shoulders squared as he looks straight in the face of this apparition.]

That is a question I would have you answer. [Far it be from him to announce his name so easily, when this could be any manner of foul wizardry at hand.]

I am Thorir, son of Thrainn, son of Thor.

[Introductions in Khuzdul had given him pause at first, but he is used to wrangling his name around to fitting different languages, and luckily Icelandic and Khuzdul turned out to have fairly similar naming patterns. So there is no reason to pause.]

And this is my mountain. Now explain yourself.

[As good a control as he has of his emotions and showing them, there is the telltale sight of his eyes widening at the name. This is turning stranger and stranger.]

... I am Thorin, son of Thráin, son of Thrór, and King Under the Mountain. [Another pause as he turns his head, slowly, taking in his surroundings.] A mountain which, to my eye, is not unlike this one.

That in turn gives Thorir pause. It is one thing to resent turning into someone; it is another thing entirely to have confirmed that you are standing right before that person.

He looks around; at the ruined halls around them, majestic still in their abandon, and finds that nothing has changed. It is a strange wonder, but one that is necessary here: Is this his mountain, or Thorin's? There is only one way to find out, short of leaving the mountain: See if the numbered colony exists in it, as that is the only area that has been changed significantly enough since they arrived here. "They must be alike, as they are the same, in a way." He takes a step back to be able to turn. "Come with me; we shall find out if it is mine or yours."

And if it is Thorin's... he is not sure what he will do then. Not that he knows what will happen if it is his own.
