[meme] The everyone survived AU

Due to recent events in the movie world, it seemed like we needed one of these again...

THE ARDA AU MEME

{source}

All the AUs! With classics as the obligatory and all important

> EVERYONE LIVED AU. Maybe you're at Thorin's festive coronation or a drinking game between Boromir and Haldir after the end of the War, or Fëanor and Thingol finally talk to each other. Maybe Belladonna comes with her son on adventures, or Maedhros spends some very awkward hours at Elrond's wedding. U know the drill.
> but let's not forget the staple COFFEESHOP AU either
> or the no less important WHAT IF AU: What if the Silmarils were glowing bunnies? What if Bard hadn't managed to take down Smaug? What if Maeglin had not betrayed Gondolin, what if Galadriel had accepted the One Ring? What if Sam had a giant afro?
> and really any other AUs that you can think of.

As a note, since not everyone has seen BOFA yet and some people care about not being spoiled, please make a note in your top level comment/the subject line of a comment if you might bring up spoilers in threads or don't want to be spoiled, something like "bofa spoilers yes" or "bofa spoilers no".

Giving Maglor's words some thought, he hums his agreement. "It was an accident... I didn't mean to." He doesn't want his mother to worry, he wants her to be proud of him like she is of Fíli.

But Maglor looks sad -- maybe it was bad to ask him about his family. He misses them, Kíli thinks. The world is far, far bigger than the Blue Mountains, and Maglor must have travelled a long way from his home to come here.

Travelling by himself can't be fun. And not seeing his family at all today, or tomorrow...

"Oh..." Kíli's voice is quiet, until he has an idea and perks up. "Can you ride a horse? You'd go lots faster, and you could visit her, even if she lives in... in the Iron Hills!"

"Mmhmm, and I am sure you would be careful now. Perhaps you can tell your mother that."

He starts and then smiles, sweet and sad. "Oh Kili. Thank you for the thought, but she is so far away that even the fastest horse could not reach her, for no horse can cross an ocean."

An ocean. Dismay wipes the excitement from Kíli's face. West of the Blue Mountains lies the sea, and it's so much more water than the lake before them contains. It stretches on and on, no far shore to be seen from any spot in the mountains.

"A boat...?" he tries again, hesitantly. Maglor is smiling, but it's still so sad. "There's forests everywhere," arms spread wide to each side mean to convey all the wood just waiting to be used, "and I haven't seen any other elves living close by."

"Perhaps if I knew how to build one" Maglor shrugs fondly at him "But I fear any boat I built would rapidly sink!"

He looks amused at the gesture to the forests. "Just because you do not see them does not mean they are not there! But I think you are right that there are few elves in these parts."

He would not have come here, otherwise.

Out of ideas, Kíli drops his arms and hugs his knees to his chest, chewing his lower lip. He doesn't know how to build a boat, but the sea is practically around the corner... "I'll find someone who can do it," he promises, earnest in his determination to help Maglor get home to his mother.

Maglor has to stay his secret, though. Apart from Fíli, he won't tell anyone about him.

"You've seen some, Mister Maglor? Other elves?"

It's better to picture them hiding among the trees than Maglor living all alone in a hollow old tree trunk in the woods.

"Ah little one. Do not trouble yourself for me, eh?" Maglor smiles at Kili fondly and does not say that he is sure any boat going West would sink for far more reasons than the boat being ill made (or would it? He would rather not take the chance).

"I have, although none recently in this area. But there was a small settlement of Silvan in these woods, although they have not been here for a long time, I think."
