[It worked. They're not that little anymore, so Kíli doesn't believe everything he used to -- eating apples whole, core and seeds and everything, didn't make a tree grow in his tummy, and naughty dwarflings don't get sent away to live with Elves, who bathe five times a day and have flowers for breakfast, lunch and dinner -- but kisses are special things. When his mother and his brother kiss him (not that he's a baby), it really does help. They don't heal cuts or burns faster, but he always feels better, warm inside.

And this time, he's done it for Fíli.

All his worry is blown away as effortlessly as if it were dandelion fluff, his smile bright again. Holding onto his brother's hands, he hops up to his feet -- and now is his chance.]

[He doesn't cheat, giving Fíli that heads-up a split second before he launches himself onward, brimming with fresh excitement.]

[ Just like that, the incident is forgotten. With a smile and a single reassurance that Kíli's kiss healed him of all ailments, his little brother is smiling again, laughing and excited to continue their little adventure, or challenge of sorts. And he doesn't waste any time either, though he does give Fíli some warning before he rushes towards the shield.

He doesn't rush immediately after, instead gasping loudly in shock at the apparent swiftness of his brother's steps, while waiting for a few seconds to give him a good head start. ]

Betrayal!

[ But his tone and the laughter that follows both contradict his words, as he slides his feet across the ice the best he can to catch up to Kíli. He won't, though, he had planned it that way after all, and his brother is already reaching the shield by the time he manages to get into a decent and steady speed. ]
