[For a moment, he is caught between scolding Finland (you cannot do that, you know my king has forbidden it, because the new religion that we have thinks of it as bad and witchcraft and bestowed by the devil) and telling him no for another reason (if Finland draws the sun out now, the ground will quickly become too hot so that no scavengers will be able to head out anymore).

What he does in the end is shake his head.]
They'll come w'thout prompting.

[...and now that he looks properly, Finland really does look older. He can't tell how much with the bad lightening, but there is an age there that wasn't there before.] W' wait.

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Looking up at Sweden, Finland tries (and fails) to read his expression, so gives in and shrugs, leaning back against the makeshift tower wall.] Tell me about where we are, then, and how we got here.
scares: (considering this)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's a "machine" in the ground that drags people here from many worlds and times. W' think it's not supposed t' do that, 't's just broken.

[That was a lot. And pretty much all that is known about how they are brought here, so... He can stop there. The "where we are" he already answered, but there is something else that needs to be talked about, better sooner than later, and that is more of a "when we are" issue.] What's yer year?

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
... You mean this really is another world? [There's a touch of panic in Finland's voice, as he swings round to face Sweden again, forgetting about watching for zombies.] That's no good! I need to get home! I can't leave people now! Or any time really. I really need to get home! Aren't you worried about your people too?
scares: (Stop that shit)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They're working on the Machine. [He'd like to help with it, but he really is very far from having any idea about the technology that it was build with - sure, even people that are from the future have the same issue, but they're at least a bit closer than him. He's learning, though.

And of course he wants to return home as quickly as possible, but it just isn't an option right now. There's really only one thing that he can do right now:]

T' find a way home w' need t' survive. [It's said with a grim expression (so, really not much change, but the infection of his voice is a touch darker) and a light shrug of his shoulders. There's really not much else that can be done.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finland scrutinises Sweden's face, looking for sincerity, any sign that this might all be an elaborate lie. And then he sets his face into a grim smile.] I'm good at surviving.
scares: (considering this)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yer from my future. [This might appear like a non-sequitur, but it isn't really. Because Finland has clearly survived at least a couple of centuries longer than Sweden himself at the point that he is from.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Can that happen? [Finland looks at Sweden, obviously looking him up and down. Does he look a little younger? Maybe a little less worn. The rifle is distracting - but it can't be...] Is that rifle old world technology? [Excitement flares.] Are you from before the virus struck? But you look just like my Sweden!
scares: (Ah?)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[He does look a bit younger - one or two human years, perhaps. He hasn't really aged much after his last growth spurt in the 17th century, of which he just reached the end.

And. WHAT VIRUS that sounds really ominous in a terrible way.]

Virus? [He had to shake his head at the question about the rifle, though, phasers really are nothing that exists where he's from.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, then, he has to be from before it. No one else would not know about it. Finland's eyes light up and he swings his rifle back onto his shoulder so he can clutch Sweden's arms, staring up at him with stars in his eyes.]

You are from before it! You have to tell me everything! Were there really cars everywhere? And electricity? There were more Nations too, weren't there, more than just us and Eesti and Nor and Den and Ice, of course, lots of us? Do you know them? And there was a different religion, not your Old Gods, or mine, but something else. I've seen the churches, you know, out in the old cities. They were huge, some of them! Trolls tend to gather there so I've not really been inside, but I think I can remember a bit.

[So much for keeping an eye out for more zombies. But so much lost knowledge! Finland manages to put a hold on his tongue so that Sweden can speak, staring at him expectantly.]
scares: (Ah?)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Y' don't remember?

[Sorry, there are no answers forthcoming, only a shocked stare. What has to happen for a nation to wipe their memory this completely? What happened to Finland? Why did he not protect him...]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously not, not when no one does. Not my people, or yours or you or anyone else. [Impatiently, rather than rudely. Why is Sweden not telling him everything! Never mind that finland has 't done a very good job of answering Sweden's questions so far.[]

I guess Denmark knows the most of all of us, but I barely get the chance to see him these days.
scares: (Ah?)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Why did y' forget?

[Sure enough, there are zombies coming around the corner in the distance, but he's too shocked by a nation forgetting their past that completely to notice.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose survival became more important than preserving the past. We've lost most of it, anyway, and the cities from before are really dangerous now because of the trolls. A few books survived, and some of the useful technology, but is it really surprising I can't remember more than the sum of my people's knowledge?

[It's been a long time since something managed to sneak up on Finland, though. As he finishes speaking, he turns a little and lifts his rifle, shooting past Sweden's side with deadly accuracy. The shot rings out, and before the echoes have even faded he's reloaded and aiming again. Two down.]
scares: (too cute to handle)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-20 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Reflexes of many years of standing beside Finland in battle don't die easily, not even in a strange world like this, and when Finland turns to shoot he follows suit before his brain even kicks in.

It doesn't take them long to finish off the attackers, and after a long moment of waiting to make sure that they truly got all of them, Sweden lowers his arm and frowns at the gun to check if it needs to be reloaded. Half full still.]

...y' remember me.

[And he's incredibly thankful for that.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-21 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Reloading his gun as he scans the ground, Finland holds his position for a little longer, before relaxing somewhat. He doesn't put his gun back over his shoulder yet, though, too weary for that.]

Why would I forget you when you live next to me? [The tone to Sweden's voice makes him glance at him again, though. As a second thought, he smiles, fondly. It obviously means a lot to him, and if that's the case then Finland's glad that he remembered.]
scares: (I'll just cook tea)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-21 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Because y' forgot so much.

[...Okay sorry Finland you're getting another hug. He's keeping an eye on their surroundings this time but. He just isn't sure what he'd have done if Finland in some far away future would forget him.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-22 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
How much? [His frown returns, staring at Sweden. Was there really so much? He knows that there are holes in his memories; they're pretty obvious, and he knows there must have been a past that he's forgotten, but how much?]
scares: (what should I say)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-22 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[That is a difficult question when he doesn't know what Finland does know.] Whom do y' know? [As in, what other nations?] 'nd y' are many centuries old.

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-22 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's 90 years since the virus stuck. Before that... [Finland shrugs. But centuries? Really? He shouldn't really be surprised, not with all of the technology they had, but it's still weird to think of how much he might have lost.

To hide his thoughts about it, he crouches down and pulls a pencil out of his pocket so he can draw a map on the flat surface of a stone. He cross hatches out the silent world, before moving side so Sweden can see.
] Eesti lives with me, but that's it. I know there were others, I can remember, sort of, but I couldn't map them out.
scares: (considering this)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-22 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[There is a long moment of schocked silence (and this is Sweden, it's a pretty long moment) before he, after a quick glance at their surroundings, slowly crouches down and starts to sketch.

A large sketch of all the continents, briefly naming them verbally, and then a larger sketch of just Europe and a rough estimate of the borders around the end of the 17th century.

He'll point at the rough areas that each name denotes as he speaks.]
Den. Nor 'nd Ice live with him. Me. Y' and Estonia and Latvia l've with me. Russia's here. Poland, Lithuania. France - Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony, France. Spain, Port, Italy ...there's two. Switzerland. Greece lives with Turkey. ...England, Ireland's with him, Scot 'nd Wales. ...Netherlands, Belgium. [He's certain that he wasn't complete, but the sketch is rough as well - it is only meant to give an idea, anyway.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-22 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[While Sweden sketches, Finland alternates between watching him and keeping an eye out. But it's fascinating as the map expands, and despite himself he starts paying more and more attention to it.]

There's so many of them... [So many Nations that he must have known, all swallowed up by the course of the virus.] I can't imagine Iceland living with anyone, though. When I've met him he's been so... aloof. Like Norway, but more independent. There's so many people living together. And why are there two Italies?
scares: (wow what is that)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
History. [Said with a shrug - it's really complicated.]

...Den and Nor let Ice go? [That's something that he really wouldn't have expected. Not that Iceland belongs to Denmark, but it wouldn't be Norway's decision only.]

[personal profile] distantforest 2015-04-22 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Laughing, Finland shakes his head.] Iceland's an island! He shut off his borders for years and years and the virus never even touched him. He has so much technology still - phone lines everywhere and electricity that doesn't cut out and cars and radios! They didn't let him go, he let us back in, and helped us out a little bit. [Eventually.]
scares: (Ah?)

[personal profile] scares 2015-04-22 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[Wow.]

He's Nor's baby brother. [Kind of all of theirs, really. Also all you future people and your crazy future things.]
